    Hi All,

I've inherited 3 baskets from a couple who traveled a lot. They were both born before 1900 and died in the 1980's.

I don't know anything about them. Can someone tell me more about them by chance? They are all relatively small. I've listed them on Ebay as Native American, but second guessing that. I'd like to make sure I'm listing accurately.

I'm sorry the photos are somewhat out of order. I struggled with the upload. Hopefully you can tell one from another!

    Appreicate your help! 20241128_133820.jpg 20241128_133825.jpg 2.1.png 2.3.png 2.2.png 3.1.png 3.3.png 3.png 20241128_133820.jpg 20241128_133825.jpg 2.1.png 2.3.png 2.2.png 3.1.png 3.3.png 3.png

There's two of the brown ones, right? Those are NA. Likely Yurok from N California. I don't think the green one is NA. I'll bet that the responses you get on eBay will tell you which ones are valuable. ;)

Right, two different brown ones. That green one looks very different! Thanks for the response

The Hupa, Yurok, and Karok all made baskets similar to the brown ones. They were made with a technique called "twining", using fine willow or hazel as the foundation, with bear grass (lighter color) and maiden hair fern (black) worked in as an overlay stitch to create the designs. Some of these types of baskets were used as food bowls, and others were used as women's hats.

The basket with the green decoration is made of raffia in a coiling technique, and is most probably the work of a non-native hobbyist.
