Wondering if anyone might know anything about this couch? I appreciate the help.

Looks like a rococo revival piece; not sure if it's wide enough to be a couch or if it might better be classified as a loveseat or settee. The wood is probably walnut or even rosewood; it's hard to tell when it's this age-darkened. Likely made in the 1860s.

A pretty piece, but as with all other "brown" furniture, it's value has taken a huge hit in the past 10 years.

Thanks for the info, out of curiosity what value would you place on it?

    Thanks Debora,
Are there any specific photographs I could take to help you tell?

Sorry, unable to help as not a furniture expert. There are others here, however, who are very knowledgable.

In the U.S. midwest about what Johnny said: $200 or so on a good day, and quite possibly less.

LOVE the upholstery pattern, and I think others would, too.

For one thing, it's not the floral lots of people associate with capital "A" antiques, and the pattern size is perfect. Imo

And then there are others that dislike the upholstery (hmmm, that would be me I guess). ;)

Like the couch but couldn't live with the pattern.

It's really more of a settee, and the upholstery is absolutely perfect for it -- which is why, today, it is all wrong!

Picture it covered in bold (3 inch wide) sky blue and white strips!

People try to match upholstery with "fancy" carving, with mixed results in color, scale and pattern...

I think it works, but to each his own!

I do love me a stripe!

We would be lucky to get $200.00 here in my Midwest location as well.

I have a similar settee, which I spent over $1k reupholstering. Mind you, I stripped all of the old upholstery off, pulled out hundreds, if not thousands of tack nails. If I were to objectively appraise mine, it would be <$500, but it was a family piece, so it was worth it.
