Featured Identifying old piece of jewelry

    I am looking for help identifying what this piece of jewelry is. It is approximately 1 & 1/4 inches long and about an inch wide. The top opens and closes easily. The only mark is "Patent A" on the side. It is open on the bottom with lots of attached rings. I have no idea what this is and any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

    i'd call it a miser's purse too, but I've been infected by Britishisms in some areas. My mom's battery keeps going flat, for instance, instead of dead. And I know what a jammy dodger is.
