These aren't really tiles - they're slightly cupped flat pottery wall hangings. As you can see in the pictures they are decorated in a freehand sqrafitto technique and the smaller one has an inscription in some form of script. Can anyone identify where these came from and what the inscription says?

I ran it through google translate and it looks like it might be Hebrew for narcissus.

See what you think, of course yours is vertical not right to left.

Don't know if it's right though. Maybe there are some Hebrew speakers that can say.

Looks like a narcissus to me.

"The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the narcissus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy." Isaiah 35:1-2

Certainly narcissus, which originated around the Med. I wonder what the foxes staring at the moon means?

Thanks for the assistance. It looks like they are from Israel but I googled Israel tiles and didn't find anything quite like them. I am guessing they are mid century.
I realized I didn't put any sizes in - The larger is 5" high, 4.25" wide; the smaller is about 4.5" high x 2.5" wide

Nothing about them looks mid-century. They're new or new-ish.

Another Israeli ceramic wall plaque featuring narcissi. Must be a thing.

Thanks everybody. In the process of checking various Israeli pottery pieces I was also able to identify another piece from Lapid Pottery. I marvel at your abilities to find equivalent or even identical pieces.
