    2.jpg 1.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg 5.jpg Hi,
I'm not sure why this has been so difficult, but I honestly cannot find the mark on this porcelain piece anywhere. Why is it so hard to find? Is this even porcelain? Is it a planter? I would love to know more about this, but right now I don't even have a place to start. Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can help. :)

It looks like a planter to me. It's porcelain if it's translucent, otherwise--pottery. What does everyone think the letters are? GI?

The impressed "DEP" means it was from Germany or France, I believe.

Hello, Suzanne. I'm useless on the ceramic, other than yes, it appears to be a planter/cache-pot & I like it. Enough nice clear marks there that someone should be able to help with that. Meanwhile, could you help us all by going back to your post, choose edit from below the box, then other choices & check the box to make all your photos full size. Thumbnails are a nuisance to work with. :)

DEP could be for Deposee, indicating the design is registered. Used in France; I don't know about Germany.

I'm wanting to see it as St. ___ as a monogram.

Thank you so much Bronwen. Today is my first day on the board, so I'm learning. I made the photos full size. I think...

I thought maybe the letter is C and there is a sword with a cross at the tip. That goes through the letter C. The reason I think this is because of the coloring at the base of the sword. Thoughts?

Good job on the photos. :)

So we have a shield enclosing ____ flanked by a star on either side. The more descriptive words we can round up, the more chance of success. Or something to do until someone who knows it right off comes along.

I think it is from Germany, might even be Austrian. Not France.

It is used in all French-speaking regions of Europe. Maybe Belgian?

Where are my manners, welcome Suzanne. Lovely planter.
I just noticed your last name, Hendrix, so can I assume my hunch of a Belgian origin could be right?

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for welcoming me into the Antiquers community. I ancestry is Scandinavian, but I can't say this little pot is a part of that. I actually picked this up at a Goodwill in Oregon for $4.99. Thanks to everyone for your comments and feedback so far. I'm not sure why the mark is such a difficult one to find, since this piece, nor the mark appears to be some cheap, unknown pottery, although I could be wrong.

Also, is it possible this isn't a planter at all, but rather, a spill vase?

Spill vases are usually so tiny I can't believe they held anything.
