This Hummel-like figurine is 5 inches tall. It's marked simply "IMPORT". Does this signify and particular place of origin or age?

I'm finding the same figurines sold as being from occupied Japan, so shortly after WWII.
But this is not my area of expertise, so let's wait for the others.

The type of sweet little thing sold in five and dime stores. Which probably explains why there are still so many about.

Sometimes you'll see "Foreign" on Japanese and German ceramics. And the general answer I got was post WW2, up into mid-50s as naturally feelings were still pretty raw.

    Isn't this a remnant of a text?

No, probably some dirt or a stray blob of colored glaze.
