Was wondering what you fine fellows though of this wee still life

I'm presuming it's been reframed recently

Has zero info at all with it

Does anyone get a feeling for age or even competence of artist

    Many thanks

Well, based on subject matter cigarette ashtray, and the back of the masonite, I would guess 1940s-1950s. I suppose it could be a little earlier or later, or perhaps the artist used an older piece of masonite. It's only half competently painted, there is no shadow showing for the goblet and none on the walls, if those are walls. I'm not big on pallet knife still life paintings, just my own preference.

In agreement with antidiem. Strikes me as a practice piece.

I like your thinking, practice piece makes sense, with not having a signature as well

I'm not sure I'd call that a work of impressionism. Perhaps a tonal still life would be more accurate. Looks like a 1980s frame. And shame it's not signed.

Thanks for the info debs, I think would look much better in a older looking frame

Or no frame at all. What's written at top left hand corner on back?

I think your right, defo looks like something written in the corner in picture, never noticed it before. Will take it apart and get a better look

    I think it's student/ amateur work.
