Featured India, Pakistan? Artwork from a book

I found this framed illustration in a thrift store.
Of course I took it out of the frame to get a better look.
The image size is 3"x6".
Is it Indian, or maybe Pakistani?
It looks like a story about a wealthy man and his lovers. They are eating dates, or some other sweet. It's very beautiful and intricate.
Upon closer inspection with a flashlight, I can see that two pages were bonded together. Lots of worm holes around the edges, too.
Any ideas on age or subject matter?

 

Very nice! It looks like a page from an illuminated Mughal (India) manuscript. The servant on the right is holding a rose water sprinkler - "paneer sombu".

 

It is beautiful, but to me it looks like it was painted later on a pre-existing page. I could be wrong.

 

Yes, I thought the same thing. Recycling old books. Maybe a cottage industry to sell to tourists.

 

I believe they use pages from old books in Urdu, which uses a modified Arabic script. The books can be from the early 1900s, and mostly some kind of bookkeeping etc. I have no idea what this page says, we would need an Urdu reader.

 

My first thought was that the second woman was a maid, but she is just as draped in pearls as the favored lady & what she is holding looks to me to be just the same as the other 2 have. The 'pearls' look applied later, so maybe the confusion of roles occurred in the process of rehabbing the page?

I love that everyone is wearing pearls! Also note that the ladies have henna on their fingers.

 

I was referring to what she is holding in her left hand - the bottle-like object. Perhaps they are both members of the harem.
