Featured indian letter rack

Does anyone have any ideas of the age of this. My guess is 1960s, the painting looks like the style seen on alot of papier mache trinket boxes. Could it be Victorian? There are some similar ones around described as antiques

It looks Kashmiri to me, and my guess would be the same as yours, 1960s, maybe a bit older. I don't think as old as Victorian, but let's wait for the Brits, who see older Kashmiri pieces more often than I do.

 

Yes, I think those pretty Indian desk accessories started appearing in gift shops in the 1960s. About the time of the hippies.

Agree, 60's or a bit earlier. Very cute.

 

I think a tad earlier, maybe 30s even. It's not as considered or mass painted as later ones and the faces look more real.

 

Glad you post this. I have one and was wondering the same thing . Unfortunately, mine is damaged.

 

Nice, that one seems to have more of an Islamic theme going on

 

I think it represents a court scene, not a religious one.
