    hi guys

bought these today, the guy i bought them off said they were indian silver, he was asking £10 for the lot so thought it was worth a gamble as it looked quite well made

i take it indian silver is not quite sterling

quite a good weight to the hand thingamejig.

    hasnt been cleaned yet

appreciate ill have to test for content, but does it look right for indian silver ?
    any thoughts appreciated

    Nice set, Charlie. Probably 1960s-70s.
Indian silver can be anything from below .500 to 1000, so 100% silver. Sterling is .925. My guess is these are between .600 and .800.
But the fineness doesn't really matter in this case, the people who buy them like the ethnic look. Not really collectors of ethnic jewellery, but the Boho/post-Hippie crowd. Here they call it Ibiza style, anything that is popular in Ibiza.

(For the people across the pond, Ibiza is a Spanish holiday island made popular by artists.)

Overhere slave bracelet is the name for a bangle. I always hated that word.

Yeppers - slave bracelet. So-called because the ring is chained, or "slaved", to the bracelet. They never had any connection to a living slave; it's just a quirk of the English language.

That was after it was made popular by the artists.;)
The behaviour of young British tourists anywhere is even worse than that of young Dutch tourists. And that's saying a lot!:jawdrop:

Hippy dippy jools indeed. And yes, the slave is because the ring is in thrall. ;)

Sadly, (and being British this pains me to say) I fear you are right.
