    @Any Jewelry

What can you tell me about this ? :D

I `ve just taken this off a wall in a house clearance.
It was brought over from Indonesia in the late 50`s early 60s, it was rolled up and framed in the UK.
2m x 1m, seems to be a cotton type thin canvas.

How much time have you got?:D
It is an episode from the Ramayana from Bali and would have been pretty new when it was brought over.
The Ramayana is one of those Hindu epics with as many names as a phone book, but the very short version is:
King Rama was married to Sita (Ramo and Sinto in Javanese/Balinese) - the demon king Ravanna kidnapped Sita - Rama and his loyal friend, the monkey god Hanuman (Anoman in Jav/Bal) rescue Sita.
This panel is the part where Rama and Hanuman with his monkey army are fighting the mighty demon army of Ravanna in his country of Lanka (Sri Lanka).
Hanuman is the tragic hero who doesn't survive, but Rama and Sita are reunited. Hanuman is still the symbol of the loyal friend and protector of women, he is the white, monkey-faced noble.
Rama and Sita are seen as the perfect couple. Rama is to the left of the tree in the third picture.

Oh, and yes it is painted on cotton.

Hanuman is also a protector of the household. Many houses in Bali used to have statues of Hanuman as keris holders for visitors, a bit like an umbrella stand for keris. You'd leave your keris by the door.
This Hanuman was painted gold as a sign of gratitude for protecting the house:

    Thank you.
My next question is what is a good asking price, assuming I can find a buyer, bearing in mind I won`t be shipping this anywhere.

I have quite a bit of Asian stuff from this house, the lady that died, lived in 15 Asian countries in her 86 years, her two sons have been here only a few days, they had to fly in from Australia and Singapore to sort out her estate.
I`ve got everything for free as long as I clear it over a period of 2 weeks.
One of the guys daughters is traveling up from London on Friday and wants her pick before I get my hands on it.
There`s silver, MOP, ivory, pictures, and furniture.
They can`t take it all back overseas and to London so I expect to get quite a bit more.

£2m house just around the corner that has had no improvements or redecoration since 1948.

There is a name for these cloths, but it just won't come to me. It will, usually in the middle of the night.:)
A good price here in The Netherlands would be 125 euro. Indonesian art is cheaper here than in Britain, but there is the shipping limitation.
Looking forward to other treasures from the house, if you can get them.

    Thank you AJ.
    Its appreciated.
I already have quite a bit,I`ve put it in storage today.
Its quite dusty and has mouse droppings and silverfish infestation.
I brought some of the silver home to identify.

4 quite large lamps, 3 brass one ceramic, I cut the wiring off as it was original and unsafe in the UK.
An English barley twist occasional table.
    Fire screen.
Lots of wooden dining plates/dishes and servers.

    Very nice!
The ceramic lamp looks Chinese. Do you have more detailed pictures of the brass ones?
Most of those wooden plates and dishes are teak from Thailand, the square ones are ca 1970, the others are probably the same age, so spot on for todays fashion.

I`ll photograph the lamps closer later in the week.
The 5 section wooden thingy is a revolving carousel, the boys said it held spices at the dining table.
It needs a serious clean, you can see the mouse droppings in the bowls.

The thingy is a Lazy Susan....& as with all that wood.....maybe not so old....but the stuff really shines when it's cleaned up.

Around here monkey pod wood pieces are generally given away, but that lazy susan might just move. The inlay looks much more promising. And that table...Brad would have been there with a crate.(LOL)

The guy brought 3 bungee springs to strap a 5 metre boat to his roof rack on his van and was hoping to travel over the Humber Bridge:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I told him he would lose it after a short distance never mind going over the bridge.
I gave him 4 ratchet straps and a rope and fastened it on for him.
He did buy quite a bit from me which was unexpected.
