I found this cool 9 3/4" Uncle Sam bank at a thrift store yesterday. I searched Uncle Sam figure bank celluoid, plastic etc - but all that comes up is a metal figure withbag that opens for a coin to drop in and a square box(?) the figure is standing on.
Has anyone seen this one before?
    What is it made of?
    What year is it from?
    Thanks all for any help.

Is it definitely plastic? It looks sort of like chalkware from the photos.

If plastic, it's probably a hard plastic (not celluloid).

My guess on this is it's 1970s plus or minus.

    I'd think Bicentennial.

Maybe it was one of those ‘do it yourself’ home kits or blanks that you could buy and then paint yourself.

There was also a paper mache' mixed with plaster type of material that I have seen vintage banks made of. I have an old bobble head from the 60's that is made out of this material. its a very lightweight material.

No it's definitely some type of (hard?) plastic or celluoid, not chalkware or plaster - I'd guess a hard plastic (and if you flick it with your finger it has a hollow echo/feel; not like plaster/chalkware would sound/feel)

They did make celluloid banks. So it is possible. I think the Tax bag is the same used on all the cast iron Uncle Sam banks. His face looks older than bicentennial and I dont think much was produced in celluloid in 1976.
