I could find no other tile examples. I'm not sure how much the price is in American dollars? Care to transpose that for both auctions?

with all due respect - he is known around here, I live 20 minutes away and his works are spread all around - I am not convinced that these are by him.
the seller lives in Efringen-Kirchen and Brombach is only a quarter of an hour away. would an old-school artist sign like that ? why does the seller not provide any written proof when he is so near to the collection ?

Yes absolutely and 1 Euro is around 1.1 USD so 10 percent is the difference

Thank you, Fid, this is the sort of information that is best for the potential buyer of artwork to know.

So each would be over $500 U.S.

@Lgz , I would definitely want to assure myself that this was, in fact, the actual signature. For an artist who is "known", I find it UNUSUAL not to be able to find any other ceramic works by him online..

Suggest you proceed to verify the signatures and method of signing. I'm not sure the names are baked into the tiles. If applied afterward the kiln firings - anyone could have signed these like that. Perhaps knowing if these are signed with fired, ceramic glaze - could help you?

In fact, I'm not sure these are even ceramic tiles because I cannot read German, but that's what they look like to me. How big are these (in inches, lol)?

I think she said that she did verify the mark. Currency converter shows 150,00 Euro = 162.21 USD

That why I'm thinking that it can be real because it comes from the same area I've contacted the seller he says he purchased it one garage sales, and he investigated the origin, I'm emailed the artist too and his family says that are his work just from his really early ages. Do you have any idea how much they worth when those real are ?

I apologize, I think momentarily I was responding as if to my S-I-L Liz instead of Lgz. I could use more coffee.

I know from some experience that there are some real lousy SOBs around there when it comes to antiques. I'd ask him the best price he can make and I'd be interested what the family themselves say about the items this guy has on offer.
the mark is most probably a simple greek Sigma and could have been copied from the internet site of the artist.

Thank you, AJ, Fid, SIS, ALL whom often help me always with monetary conversions. I am unable to easily understand math number conversions.

I think this is the best verification possible at this point. HAS HIS FAMILY SEEN ALL 4 BACKS OF THE TILES?

@Lgz - It's not near the risk if it's $162 (in U.S. dollars), earlier, I thought it was $500 for each piece in the two different auctions, however it would still be an enormous amount to spend on artwork that may not be authentic.

You make a very valid point, well taken. Thank you, Fid. @Fid , is there a museum nearby that Lgz could email to ask about the signatures?

I worry that because the signature is so "different" from the rest of the colorization, that it was simply signed by a non-artist to sell it off on ebay. HAVE YOU FOUND ANY SIGNATURE ONLINE TO MATCH THIS TO??

Try ask the seller what material was used to make the signature marks. If the response is, essentially, 'the same material as the rest of the glaze-paint' - then I would think the signature to be original to the piece, and a little less likely to have been faked. Still doesn't mean the 4 pieces weren't made by some faker yesterday.

I've been disappointed before when buying art that I thought was original. I never would have thought that an obscure 1950s artist's painting would have been faked, but it was.

I don't think these are stone, they look like clay on the back and ceramic glaze on the front.

It appears the single tile was just signed with a marker after the fact, here is the appearance of the signature, does not appear to be kiln-fired in ceramic glaze. Anyone could have written the signature.

Did his family SEE the backs of all 4 tiles?

I don't know where the OP is living. so I can't say which place would be ideal to discuss matters with a specialist. furthermore it's very hard for me to understand some of his questions and remarks. it's hard to understand me as well sometimes, I know; af called my English "fidbaldish". English is my fifth language only after Swiss, German, French and Latin.:meh:

the Drei Länder Museum in Lörrach is the best bet.
seems there are people with a certain knowledge of his work, but I don't know how profound.
    https://www.dreilaendermuseum.eu/de/suche?&doInvestigate=1&languageId=1&query=scheurer

generally spoken: Scheurer is well known regionally and was worldwide on display - in times gone by. BUT he was one of those artists that never made it without statal support. I'm sure that I probably passed thousands of times some of his monumental metal works in roundabouts or hospital gardens etc. but they didn't "catch" me.

if the OP likes those tiles as keepers for himself, then they are worth the price he's willing to pay.
if resale was intended then hands-off. I don't see any possible rise in value; there will - perhaps - be a short-lived rise of interest when he's deceased, but that's it.
