    Hello, all.

My mother in law has a vintage caned rocking chair that she is thinking of giving away. She thinks it is old, but does not know the age. I believe the seat has been re-caned. I took close ups of the dowels on the side, and screws on the bottom. There is also a medallion on the back. It is not particularly large (my shoulders are above the back) so my guess is that is is from an era when people were much smaller.

I found no discernible makers marks.

I would appreciate any information as to age or value.

    Thank you!

I like it! It might??? be called in the Jacobean style and possibly dates from the 1890s to the 1920s??? Found several similar, not identical, ones on line. I did find a caning/reweaving website with a similar one, again not identical, that they were calling Jacobean style. Here's a link to that caning site. Need to scroll a good 1/2 way to the 7th row. It is in the first column, far left.

Do wait for other to chime in to see if I'm on the right track or completely off the track. Following are a few others online:

Thank you. As indicated it is smaller than modern rocking chairs.

I would think teens-20s. Despite the remarkable condition, value is not all that high. This furniture is out of fashion right now. Could probably pick this up at auction for under $50.00 here in the Midwest. At retail, likely under $150.00. It might have better value in other locations.

The caning looks prewoven. It's a pretty chair. I'm partial to caned chairs :)

  8. Your rocking chair is beautiful. Might I ask where you live and is the chair still available?
