Hope you don't mind me sharing this lovely piece with you folks. It's a wonderfully made model of a training glider like those my dear old Dad would have flown during WWII. It was cast in aluminium. Some of these models were made by apprentices working in the factories where the real thing was produced; others by RAF fitters during quiet spells. I really like the stand; kind of a mash-up of gothic and art deco influences!

Sorry my friend, it's packed away now. There are no maker marks or anything; the roughness makes me wonder if it was sand-cast

Much respect to him; my Dad was 1st British Airborne Division, one of the guys who fought at Arnhem in '44. Such a great generation; we will remember them!

My Dad was in the Navy and we had most of the Navy airplanes from WWII. He enjoyed talking about them.
From almost the same period - early 1950s, we had 4 C130s come over yesterday and 2 today. They were flying low for landing and the earth rumbled!

I belong to the Glider Pilot Regiment Association. Qualify for my pa: he was trained as both a para and a pilot, recommended for OCTU, but chose to be a para instead. Ended up a sergeant major. Not bad for a lad who left school at fourteen.
