I want to sell this necklace I bought in a lot but need to identify it as imitation or real and I'd love to include material it's made of if it's faux. Thank You! 15971899824963257035391811702013.jpg 15971900263894619363156716103068.jpg 15971899824963257035391811702013.jpg 15971900263894619363156716103068.jpg 15971899824963257035391811702013.jpg 15971900263894619363156716103068.jpg

One thing that would assist us in assisting you, Emma, is... a photograph of the entire necklace including clasp. These would help date your necklace which, in turn, would help identify the material.

Appears to be 1970s so plastic most likely. Is it fairly light weight? And did you notice, Emma, that the pendant is damaged? That's going to hurt resale value (if your intention.)

Ok. thanks. Yes i noticed it is chipped but feels rough underneathbthe glaze and it has so much of the yellowish hues that i thought there was a chance it's real. The entire necklace weighs 2.5oz...as a whole it doesn't feel so light but just the pendant i think is.
I have learned something new today and I appreciate it very much!
    Thank you Deborah:)

"Rough underneath" doesn't sound like plastic. And since the design of your necklace would be described as "tribal," either ivory or bone isn't inappropriate. Others here are more knowledgable than I about how you can recognize the difference. Sure someone will be along shortly.

If the back of the pendant is also somewhat concave, I'm all in for bone there. The beads may be artificial, can't tell, but I see no hint of ivory in any part of it.

Edit: Larger beads look like they could be bone. Some of the smaller ones look suspect. Necklace may not be all a single material.

I'm not seeing tribal here...but that bead with the metal moved away from it...
reminds me of a Iroquois carving I have...said to be of a rare marble....from Wisconsin....or one of the northren states...

I can't say it is or isn't.....but the cream white and clear dull gelatin color...seem to both be there...

I’m no expert, but it looks like bone to me. The large pendant looks a bit like haversian( ish) to me. it would be fairly light weight if it were bone. And, bone turns yellow. But, might be vegetable ivory (tagua nut).

I'm seeing bone here too, at least on the pendant. The beads might be plastic. It looks like something from India.

With brass and clasp, India very likely. The type of thing sold at World Market. And may well be retro rather than vintage 1970s.

I don’t see any schreger lines but the pictures aren’t super focused and they’re pretty screaming on all my mom’s pieces so I’d say not ivory.
