[QUOTE="Brian Warshaw, post: 4086713, member: 16674"]Is ther anything significant in this scene? I bought this about ten years ago in Burgundy because I like reliefs. It's small and fits in nicely in a group. It is remarked detailed and sharp, although this is not obvious from the photographs. I have always assumed it to homely Dutch living room; the women working, and the two boys are eating their afternoon tea. Of the three women, one is spinning wool, another is knitting a stocking or sock, and the third is caring for baby. I cannot make out the object on the floor in the foreground to the spinner. It appears be plaster or similar, and the maker has a ball of material in hand that is slapped down on to a flat mould and kneaded into position. My thumbnail doesn't scratch the material. An interesting, although effective fixation into the frame; the cork both prevents damage by the nails, and provided some springiness to hold the plaque firmly in position. There is no indication of a makers name on front nor back of the relief. Size of relief: 8.5 cm x 5.0 cm What do think? Thanks.
