Is this a Native American napkin ring?

I found something similar online a few years ago, it was called Iroquois or Woodland Indians. Then, today, I found a pair attributed to Chippewa that sold at auction; they appeared to be lined with leather. Mine has a velveteen type lining.

Is this Native American? Am I on the right track? Thanks! Native_American_beaded_napkin_ring_1.JPG Native_American_beaded_napkin_ring_1.JPG

I think it is possible it is Native American. You don't say how large it is, but I vote for something decorative to thread a braid through. Seems kind of fancy with the velvet interior for a napkin ring. The velvet would keep the hair in place.

That said: I've never seen a Native American hair wrap like this - most seem to have fringe and not so solid.

    Kind of pretty...

My oversight! It's 1 7/8" high and rigid so it would be quite a hassle to pull hair through it. The other NA rings had leather in some cases, but not all linings were described. Thanks for your input, Leslie!
