It has glass to protect the small book inside.
    And it’s 2cm x 3 cm

It looks like it's the same material as what we call tins to me and the text is too small to see what language you have there ..

It looks like it had a gold gilt, which has worn off. I wouldn’t mess with it anymore. Can you show a close up of the marks? Please choose Full size for photos.

Here is another very similar item, with a completely different story than for the one in the earlier link. The book looks identical, but the case looks a bit different...less substantially made that the poster's item. It's hard to tell though, since the outside isn't shown.

Once Choudhery started looking she found Islamic pieces in every room, including a very tatty camel saddle, and a copy of the Qur’an the size of a postage stamp sent by Walker to his daughter who wanted to learn Arabic. The Qur’ans were actually printed by a Scottish man, David Bryce, who specialised in miniature books. They were mass-produced for Muslim soldiers during the first world war, supplied in metal cases with a ring so they could be hung on a chain.

Although this says they were mass produced, a search of David Bryce miniature quran shows that they are not terribly common, and seem to have collector interest.

The National Library of Scotland has one of these too, and it looks very much like yours.

It is in Arabic, if there was doubt on that score.
