Bought this cloisonne plate at an auction for $80 recently. Might
have paid a tad too much but it piqued my interest. It was beautifully
detailed and had an odd shape. Almost as if someone tried to make a
rectangular shape and said “Ah what the heck, that's near enough!”.
Also liked it because it was well used for everyday life and not one of
those display cabinet things. I'm calling it Japanese because of the
    following characteristics ---
Lots and lots of ultra tiny brick red dots around the rims
Orange peel effect on the back
    Birds and highly detailed floral arrangement 1s.jpg 2s.jpg 3s.jpg 4s.jpg 5s.jpg 6s.jpg 8s.jpg 7s.jpg 9s.jpg 10s.jpg

I will happily defer to the experts on this.

Any ideas as to its probable age???
Please excuse the photos as it's difficult with a shiny object.
    Forgot to add dimensions - 23.4cm x 19cm x 1cm high 0.62Kg.

    Cheers

I always thought champleve was were enamel filled an area that was cast/cut or machined into the metal. Could be wrong!!

I'd guess Chinese rather than Japanese, and pre-WWII but post-1900. Beyond that, dunno. Someone else who actually knows what they're talking about may say differently.

I think you are correct in thinking Japanese.
I would guess the date on your tray to be about 1900 - 1920.

Sorry this is blurry, I tried to enlarge it . Similar to yours with the florals. Butterfly instead of bird. Small border.

Think you nailed it. Also found on the archive this image of a 1920s export plate that look very similar in shape and borders. Think mines much nicer though.
