Featured Japanese Lacquer Koi vase.. Old or no?

    I thought even with the damage this 6" brown lacquer vase was just beautiful. It has a few cracks and some chips in the lacquer. bottom is rough as i think there used to be a base attached.
    The bodies of the fish are what i think is called mackie?
    My initial thoughts were 1930's 1940's.

    Looks more like Vietnamese lacquer ware than Japanese.

    Lovely vase, Mikey.
    I agree, Vietnamese lacquer on wood, and a subspecies of fantail goldfish. The bodies of the fish are paint and lacquer on foil. It is probably not as old as you think.

    Thank you all. I'm going to look for a base and keep it. Especially since Tonka decided it needed a thorough cleaning. What are the cleaning properties of dog slobber? Lol
