Featured Japanese lacquered box-help with age

PS: if anyone interested in the price, I got it for roughly £40. Dunno how’s the price in non-east-asian market?

 

I never see the old ones here, but do love a good quail or two.

 

Just the kind of exquisite work I like to collect. I know nothing when it comes to Japanese lacquered boxes but I know quality when I see it. Seems like a deep dive into research all about Japanese lacquered boxes is in order especially when work like this can be got for £40, nice one.

I've always been condemned for my brutal honesty and I'm not always right, my wife is always telling me "that's not what people want to hear" I just can't help myself when it comes to giving out advice, on the one hand if I brutally honest I upset people and on the other if I'm less straightforward I might just give the wrong impression. I just don't have the same fantastic skill my wife has when talking to people, sorry, I've never meant to offend anyone rather just to help.
I look forward to learning about Japanese lacquered boxes from you, how to date, what to look for, what's good and what's not ect Art boxes (good ones) are really a rare thing and if the process is very skilled and takes a lot to produce then it may well be a future for investing, getting in at the bottom of a antique growing market is how I've managed to get the kind of collection that only people with deep pockets can afford.

 

It's tough to tell people something they're excited about isn't what they think it is... I try to put myself in their shoes and speak kindly instead of definitively, if I can. I attempt to give positives on something as well. Even if it's not for me, it can be fun for someone else!

And I never post insulting things like "why did you buy that it's terrible" etc. That's why I stopped going places like Reddit...meanness was the game and that's a horrible culture to cultivate.

Honesty is why people come here and ask the questions so it's important!

I definitely get your sincere advice, i.e. that time you tell me not to spend money on random trinkets that’s too ordinary for a serious collection, which is 100% right as I have always been bitten by the fact that I constantly just want to buy something because it’s cheap so why not, and when I lose passion for that collection within weeks I just realize how much I have spent on something I don’t really like because “it’s cheap so why not”. Sometimes I simply just want to buy something interesting and new to me for a small price to expand my collection and experience for beautiful things in life, but I always keep your advice in mind. And if you suggest something else to collect, it’s not forcing me to change my mind so is alright, I appreciate your input as always!

And I will keep hunting for Japanese boxes and hopefully I could find something exquisite enough for you haha…I’m sure there’s plenty of them, I just need to get money ready
