Featured Japanese Samurai Gold Leaf Painting Signature Help

Any help would be greatly appreciated, measures 36"H x 72"W. supposedly came from a Japanese lady, stored 30 yrs since so I guess its old.

 

must be an interesting story , cuz exept for the 3 on the right ...everyone else looks in distress !!

It is a screen. I do not think it is older than 2nd half of the 20th c. Unfortunately I cannot help with id of the scene, maybe a scene of Heiji Monogatari?

Very nice screen. I agree with the others, it was probably relatively new when stored.

My first thought too, with the cart and warriors. But it could be any of a number of stories.

 

Any thoughts on the writing?

We don't have a translator for Japanese.

Beautiful, and also from the Heiji Monogatari. But it could be from another story as well, or from another episode in Heiji Monogatari.

It's all a bit chaotic. One horse has gone bananas and the fellow on the right-hand panel is running down the hill whilst the bullock or ox or whatever pulling the wagon has been totally left to his own devices.

 

So this guy paints the same image over and over again...???

 

Don't you hate it when that happens? Only the other day....
