Featured Japanese WW2 charm

My Great Grandfather found this charm inside the leather pouch in the jungle during the second World War. Is anybody able to identify or translate them?

It's a Shogi game piece"dragon king".

 

neat.....did he take it off a dead soldier?

 

No he found it on the ground in the New Guinea jungle!

or a gambling piece......the Japanese are notorious gamblers !!

My thought exactly, I grew up on this game loving it. Now it seems it came here after World War II. And the founder never gave credit to its origins.

Pondering why 1 piece ends up in a pouch in the jungle? Could the original owner rank/status secretly been con-sealed and only revealed by a piece our troops could not have understood? In Stratego your opponent never sees the rank untill moved uponed

 

Maybe that case held a folding board and set and that's all that was left. We'll never know

I have a small leather pouch with an ordinary rock in it. If I was ever in the jungle and dropped it, no one would ever suss out why anyone had this ordinary rock in a leather pouch.

A very dear token from my beloved.
