    Gunnery Proficiency Badge (Bombardment Superior Badge)
    (Kanpou Shageki Yuutoushou)
    Instituted on September 8, 1911 (Meiji 44)
    Awarded to NCO sailors who passed tests in naval artillery. Mostly awarded to gun crew commanders, firers, ammunition carriers, and heavy artillery aimers (those who aimed the artillery)

    By coincidence, my father was a Fire Controlman, second class in the Pacific during WW2.

    He was on the Liberty ship AKS-11 USS Gratia. Here she is back from the war, on the way to be mothballed.
