Found this is a grab bag of jewelry and honestly I am amazed at this thing. It is huge 42 grams!! Better than that is that not one stone is missing. No idea on the age or maker of this. It is marked Sterling but I am not sure it is? Edit: Looks to be gold washed sterling... Any thoughts on this piece? It truly is a beautiful brooch no matter what!!

If I were guessing I'd say it really is silver; some companies kept making their costume out of sterling well into the 50s.

I would bet it is sterling from the mark.

A lot of costume jewelry companies turned to silver during the years of WW2 because base metals were needed for the war effort.

If you want to shine it up use a polishing cloth. DO NOT do anything that would get the backs of the rhinestones wet!!! It will destroy the foil backing and ruin the piece! Better to have it tarnished than ruin the rhinestones :)
