From the Vintage Fashion Guild Label resource:
"Patou died in 1936 and the house was then directed by his brother-in-law, Raymond Barbas. Since then there has been a considerable amount of talent at the house of Patou, including Marc Bohan 1953-56, Karl Lagerfeld 1960-1963, and Christian LeCroix 1982-87. The last clothing collection was in 1987, and since that time Patou has produced perfumes."
    and
"Christian LaCroix, (b. 1951) Poofs, ruffles and giant bows. Nothing said flamboyant 1980s fashion better than the designs of Christian LaCroix. The designer was working for the House of Jean Patou when, in 1987, he joined forces with Bernard Arnault to create the couture house of Christian LaCroix. After exploding onto the Paris fashion scene, LaCroix quickly earned his place as the darling of outrageous excess."
The sketch would best be referred to as "by Christian LaCroix for Jean Patou".
    Fabulous!
Here is a youtube video about CL's autumn/winter 1987 collection ("hiver" = winter), sadly there is no audio but when you have 40 minutes to kill, you might spot your gown or sketch!

    adding:
Hmmm, I just found your ebay listing for this sketch. You may want to edit the description where you spell Patou as "Pardou" a few times. Your pricing is very ambitious but you may get lucky. It's a great find!

I think it could be too. I did an internet search for Hiver 1987 collection dress and came up with nothing as close as you did.

A few listing suggestions offered in the most helpful way possible. You should add "Winter 1987" to title as potential buyer will want to know what season design is from. eBay France has a number of vintage designer illustrations on offer. Suggest you visit for pricing direction. You're asking $5,000 for an item and expect the buyer to pay for shipping? Isn't that just a tad -- how shall we say -- greedy? And photographing a $5,000 item sitting on the grass doesn't add to the perception of value. Finally, isn't there a better category than Art Drawings? Something related to high fashion? Unless someone is deliberately searching for "Patou" and "Christian Lacroix," they're not going to find it.

It looks more like it overall than any of the ones shown here.

Let's just say, I wouldn't ask the prices journey asks. But if it works, why not?

Everyone has his/her own resale pricing strategy.

If it sells for that... score! If not, the seller can always go lower; you can't go up.

What a fabulous find. IMO the value is Lacroix first. I see no issue with the price as it’s on a Best Offer and since no one’s sure of value it makes sense to fish but I would hit the back button on that one if there wasn’t free shipping. The OP would far better serve self by including shipping.

Debora, there are a few fashion auction houses - is there one you'd recommend to contact?
Should I take out of frame to verify it's not just a print or copy of original before contacting a auction? (I put it on eBay to see if anything happens while deciding about a auction house & then thought about it possibly selling and it turning out to not be an original! I was just made a power seller in the last week & it wasn't easy getting/keeping a 100% positive feedback)
Any suggestions- maybe just opening a corner & seeing if that gold color is real?
    Thank you!

I don't think eBay is a bad venue. Just make sure your key search words are good. If you're interested in exploring auction house, I'd start with Sotheby's or Christie's (at the top, in other words.) You can request an estimate on line. Won't be a bad idea to carefully deframe just to ascertain it's the real deal. But it certainly appears to be.

Do keep in mind that, if you work with an auction house, you will want one with international reach.

Just saw the post went to 2nd page - I will correct spelling & make it free shipping.
May I ask you guys for a correct title when asking Christie's or Augusta's (or for eBay)?
With all the posts I have had here asking for help, you know I like unusual - bit I am really out of my depth here with fashion! :)

    My suggestion:

Christian Lacroix for Patou Winter 1987 Collection Original Signed Sketch

Someone else may have a different idea (or improvement.)

I would state Jean Patou rather than just Patou. :)

I did as suggested with asking price also; lowering it to $1,200obo - and accepted offer of $600 today!
Thank you all for all the help!
