The location where it was found is a red flag for me. Like someone wanted to make it "age" and become dry and browned before its time.

I have spoken to a rep at that museum who said that they believe reproductions and souvenir wanted posters of James have been printed since shortly after his death. Thus, some could be truly old and still not have been originals. That also means that any layout, format, or paper size not specifically known to be original could cause an expert to doubt authenticity, even if the item is clearly on 19th century paper.

 

Even the Pinkertons had no photos of Frank or Jesse.
