Knife sharpener - how old?/any value?

Just curious to know how old this tool is and if there is any value in it. I actually use it and it's brilliant...

just a guess..60"s and people like red..nice piece

 

It reminds me of the Spong bean slicer/stringers that were popular in the 1950's-60's

 

it's cool....and lots of us from the 50's and 60's still work well too !!

 

this is not a value site, so try some tool auctions and see it it has come up for sale lately.

 

I'd guess a bit older than 60s; maybe 1940s - designs hadn't changed much in those 20 years.

 

$5-10. Item IMO, especially if there's no maker's name on it, it won't bring much. Please give sizes of your items. Guess at date is 1935-1955.

 

Would that be more of a chisel or drill bit grinder instead of a knife sharpener?

 

The red paint says older rather than newer. I'm betting it works a treat. The sharpening/grinding wheel my grandfather put on his work bench still works fine and it has an actual groove down the center of the wheel from what's probably close to 100 years of use.

 

It really does work very well, it's a great tool

 

The red and grey colors sometimes indicate a Millers Falls Company tool. If so, it'll add considerably to the value.

If it is marked, it'll probably be very faintly on the flat part of the crank handle. It's also possible that it had a foil ID sticker.

 

If the sticker is missing all you can say is "foiled again!"

 

Do not ruin good knives on a grinder

 

Absolutely!! Knives should be honed for a sharp edge!
