Thousand faces design? Haven't seen a mark with that fancy frame before. You could check at gotheborg.com under Japanese marks.

I don't see a typical Kutani marks there. The first 2 characters in the right hand column are for Dai Nippon.

Hi there again. Seems I'm trolling you you tonight Charlie. Here's an example of a kutani thousand faces cup and saucer I picked up at a charity store a few years ago. I couldn't face selling it. The mark is a kutani mark. The top symbol that looks like a pi symbol is quite often present in kutani. Also the rust red and gold colouring is an indicator. Sorry I can't help you with your mark but I remember seeing a similar one posted on the forum a few weeks ago maybe? Six symbols and red border. The black and gold honeycomb pattern on the edge is used on satsuma pieces but it doesn't look like a satsuma mark and the rest of ot doesn't strike me as being satsuma like.

Bottom left mark is 製 zhìzào - to manufacture.

I think the top two left marks are the name of the kiln.

I've done a Google image search and all the results ive seen point to kutani meiji period. So could well be kutani afterall. Just not fund one with the same mark as yours.

Oh and this site is pretty informative. Just doesn't have your mark on it. Has full explanation of marks and breakdown of their meanings.

Great. In future if I have any kutani queries, I'll know who to ask.

Made by Wataya (or similar) - there are numerous different forms of the name using 綿谷. Late 19th or early 20th century in date. Column on the right just says Great Japan. It's not a mark I have on my page, so I can add it in if you'd like.
