Lamp shade - Arabic script ??

Another "hmmm that looks interesting enough to buy for $3" find at the thrift store. 11" diameter. 5 1/2" high. Seems to be brass(at least non-ferrous - not attracted at all to a strong magnet)...very golden colored - the outside is quite dirty - haven't cleaned it yet. Has what I believe to be two sets of Arabic script written in circles around the shade. Last pic is the under-side. Where and when might this be from? Thanks again!

I don't think so - probably just scratching and/or dirt and/or patina. I'll double check.

 

Did you look at Coptic Egyptian? I really can't see it very well.i will look for a link. There is a new member I believe is from Egypt.

I'm with barn, Hebrew. Ottoman style. The entire lamp is covered in calligraphy. Maybe even a mix of Hebrew and Arabic (lower part).

It has Arabic calligraphy. This one is called Syrian. It says: "Same floor lamp could be found at the Doris Duke Islamic Art Museum."

It is! I hadn't even noticed the $3. The value wouldn't be nearly as much for just the shade, but far more than $3.
I prefer it without the floor lamp base. All it needs is an inside construction to use it as a shade for a different kind of lamp.

 

Might be just the thing for Colt's peacock-parrot lamp base.

 

I would put it on a darkish wooden table lamp base, nothing fancy. Let the shade shine.

For $3 ... score! If you're so inclined, that sort of thing often ships back to Israel if sold on the FeeBay. Israelis love buying back vintage pieces or antique ones that originated in Palestine.

 

I may very well end up selling - but for now it's going in my living room...
