Featured Large lace doily

    This round table topper looks handmade to me...? It is 32 inches in diameter and feels like cotton thread. I'm wondering if this is some type of bobbin lace? Or is it knit or crochet? And is it contemporary or does it have some age to it? Help @Northern Lights Lodge! (Or anyone else who has an idea!)

    Wow! That is beautiful! It looks hand knit to me, with a lot of drop stitches, but I really can't say for sure.

    Yes, hand knit!

    I can't say for sure - but, most large round knit table covers that I've seen are more modern in nature. It certainly is possible that they made them post 1900... but I really haven't seen any older than about 1970.

    I thought it was likely contemporary, or only slightly vintage, but it fits my needs for my bedside table. :)

    Lovely. It looks like Shetland lace, but I'm sure similar handknit lace was made in other places too.

    Worth googling Shetland lace anyway, it is beautiful, so delicate and elegant.:)

    I wish it were! But it's made from what feels like a nice quality string-like cotton thread. It still drapes nicely but feels quite utilitarian.
