Large Plaque.... any idea who it is?

    Hi,
No. I meant to say that the backboard which attached to the plaque had room at the bottom for the ID of the bronze piece. The board which was probably 6" higher and wider than the plaque had four holes in the corners to mount the plaque and the board to the wall.

From your drawing, it seems that there would be eight holes in the plaque. This one has four.

So since my last post I've still been emailing and researching. I've had people who thought it might be the pilot Chuck Yeager. I contacted General Yeager directly and he said it's not him.

The Henry Ford research team said it's not Henry Ford.

Hank Williams Sr was mentioned, but even to my untrained eye it doesn't look like him...

On Feb 28, 2017 I'd already said that I'd contacted two Wright Brothers organizations.

    Wilbur was bald.

Putting hair on a historic figure is, in my opinion, is a bit more than artistic license.

    Hmmm.... I've been thinking....

Let me rephrase that. Adding hair onto a historical figure might be artistic license. However, when you're talking about a thirty eight pound bronze plaque, that just doesn't make sense.

The people at wright-brothers.org don't think it's him.

Actually, my mother-in-law said, just the other day, 'who was that guy that we used to collect money for before the movie started for charity?' because it made her think of him. It took some time, but we figured out it was Will Rogers, and then, too, decided it wasn't him.

We may never know who it is.

Just because I keep coming back to look at this everytime someone posts a thought but have not given my own (yet) here's what I "see." A "visionary" type person laying in grass land, with a mountain in the midground (that looks rather like Mt. Rainier to me, but that's probably my Seattle location talking ;)) watching a seagull glide through the air. Early 20th century bowtie.

Since you've eliminated the Wrights (and the topography in the scene does not lend itself to either Ohio or North Carolina, anyway) what other flight pioneers are there to investigate?

That's pretty much what I see. A guy laying in a field of tall grass, with his sleeves rolled up, his pants cuffed, barefoot, looking up at the sky and smiling. It could be a bird in the sky, or not. I agree with the modernish bowtie.
