This is the shade that sits on top of the plate. It was originally used in the the Smith oil lamp, but was repurposed to create a candle lamp.

The shade fits at the outer ring. The inner ring holds the candle / votive holder / tealight in place, just as Peggy is showing in her mockup photos.

IMHO, this was just an easy way for Smith to introduce a "new" item to the product line using existing molds (with only minimal modification). Tiara did a similar thing with the molds from their fairy lamp shade and ashtray, to create a table-top candle lamp:

Same concept when Taco Bell introduces a "new" taco, but it's really just a regular hard-shelled taco wrapped in a tortilla, glued together with nacho cheese. It's all just crap they already have lying around the kitchen. Voila! ;) :D

And, sorry Peggy - Once you described the lamp shown in the book, I remembered that I've seen a couple of them in various antique and resale stores over the years. I even remembered thinking that the base was just a lunch plate, with the rings added. Oh well.

Hurricane lamp is what Felt & S say Smith called it. Also think "fairy light".You do need the original shade for it to look ok.

Thanks for helping me out with the description Chuck!!:kiss::kiss:

I have been preoccupied with other things in the past few days & obviously I wasn't making sense. :p:p:oops::oops:

I agree that it doesn't look quite right with the clear shades, but than again the whole set up was kind of dorky from the very beginning.:eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:
