Leather covered round box, thoughts on age and maker

    I hope someone knows what this is. i was thinking maybe a jewelry box because of the divided partitions. It is all covered in leather with the top ball being wood with brass inlay. It is 8" wide x 6" tall.

    Purpose-wise, I'd venture its a (gentleman's) stud box. No clue as to age, etc.

    I bet that's Indian. The knop is typical. Remnants of an old price label, too. 1950s ish.

    You mean the knob on the top with the inlay? I thought India also. odd i can't find any similar either.

    Hello
    I thought you may be interested in my ciggaret box that has similar silver wire inlay as the top of your box,like you I am not sure where these boxes were made,my feeling is Iran or Persia.

    I don't think my inlay is silver. Looks brass with silver brads.

    It looks like an Indian spice box to me, except the leather bothers me. Are you sure it is leather? Indians are traditionally (Hindu) unlikely to make or use leather covered food boxes.

    True, that - so how about camel leather from somewhere up on the Afghan border or thereabouts?

    It has the feel and look of leather but I will look again when I get home.

    Here is a close up. I think it some kind of leather. and every bit is covered inside and out.
