Featured Lidded Basket Asian?

    Hi,
    I have this lidded basket - maybe Asian?
    The basket is 9" wide.
    Any information appreciated.

    I'd say African as well, most likely from the Rwanda/Burundi area, possibly Tutsi, based on the general form.

    But it doesn't look like the two pieces belong together. While it should be a lidded basket similar to this, in this case the stitches joining the coils on the basket itself are spaced different than those on the lid, almost like the two pieces were made by different people. Plus the way the lid just sits over the top, works, but just doesn't look quite right.

    Pier One African import would be my guess. They used to get some interesting stuff, before it was all imported from China and India.

    even the newer Tutsi baskets like to have that high pointed top....

    I hadn't noticed but you are quite right, the top is wrong for the base. I can see what you mean about the difference in the stitching!
