    You should at least do something about the verdigris (the green stuff - ie corrosion from too much humidity) - not polish per se but stop the progression - it will eventually destroy the metal & even spread to other nearby items.

    Search the board or google for several remedies. Some use vinegar, some use ketchup. I'd use oil (really any type, mineral oil is great as is wd-40) as anything acidic will affect the surface - after the gunk comes off, wash in Dawn or another grease removing soap, dry thoroughly and store or display in a dry, climate controlled spot.
