Little wood carved and painted box purpose and age.

    This little box is 4" wide square by 3 1/2" tall. The inside is only 2 1/4" wide x 1" deep.
    Looks hand carved? and five oval painted panels with different landscape scenes.

    Very nice. "Masculine" themed? Perhaps for pocket watch or ring storage? I see some similar shapes described as a "Ring Bearers Box, or Trinket box.

    Box ignorant here, but is this a mass produced item or a folk item? Kinda looks like a one-off to me.

    What are the panels made of? If resin, modern. If bone or early plastic, at least early 20th century. The scuff marks on the finish on the bottom make me think newer
