    It is certainly made by Gillows, which dates it to between 1730 and 1903 when it joined with Waring, another furniture maker.

    In 1968 when I got married, my wife and I went to Waring & Gillows in Tottenham Court Road, London, and bought two armchairs. The have been recovered twice, and are in constant use.

    Not sure why we went there, they were very expensive, and we didn't have much money, but I suppose we've had our money's worth out of them.

    W&G and Heal's were fairy lands if you wanted the best of quality and design.

    They only used that Gillows Lancaster mark between about the 1780s and 1850s ish. It changed to Gillow after that. W&G did lovely stuff.
