Hi all,I picked this beautifully done thing up for nothing at an estate sale because everyone was freaked about the subject matter, wich I truly didnt think about until the 5th person commented on it during christmas! Its by a very well known and talented artist named Dan Mccaw, and I love it but am starting to get bothered by the negative comments about it. Have we really reached that point in our society that such an innocent picture is considered "naughty" ? Im curious about yalls opinions on this subject,so fire away!

two kids at the beach....the innocence of childhood....

u tell the folks who think this is anything but that........

that THEY are the problem....not the painting !

    IMHO....

It's a charming painting. The subject matter doesn't bother me in the least but what does bother me would be anyone who might find it titillating. I think in an effort to protect children in our society we've started to censor a bit too much.

Ditto what the others said. It is not like they are doing anything, nor painted in a manner, that is sexually provocative.

I'm guessing those claiming to be bothered by the image are either poorly educated, uncultured, or both, neither deficiency being of their choice. So I'd ignore it, there will always be a segment of the population that's like that. BTW, very nice painting, I would have bought it in a microsecond.

Well, they ARE my family! LOL ! But even my more educated friends say they would feel uncomfortable displaying nude children now.The lady at the estate sale said she couldnt give it away, thats why I got it for $5. I just found that so sad,but then again I am in north florida.

I`m okay with the nudity but it is very rude to point.

There is nothing wrong with the painting, Its the world we are living in today.
Just enjoy it for what it is.....On the plus side you got a bargain because of the skewed thinking in others.

It does seem we are more sensitive these days, but then with what we see happening every day on the news, it is no wonder. I myself find the painting to be charming and innocent.

Well you got my answer on the Finds thread without asking me. :)
Regardless of whatever 'sensibilities' exist today I suppose there are places for it and not. I wouldn't put it in a public space at home. Bedroom probably.

I think it is well done and sweet. Two little kids running around on the beach....there is nothing naughty about it.. Enjoy your painting!! It is a great find!

If you should feel remorse over your purchase..please feel free to send it to me and I would hang it in a place of honour...innocence and youth..childhood remembered..

Very interesting thread. Nothing sexual about the painting, but I can see the dilemma. I agree with all of the comments above. Beautiful painting of childhood innocence.

But family members complaining would get tiresome and have the potential to ruin a person's day.

That's a tricky one. Tempting to ignore the family members critique, but see what others think.

Thank you all for the input! I love it too,it just kind of weirded me out how so many were seemingly negative about it.One of my neices had done this cute picture for halloween of my great nephew and his little friend with their tushes painted like pumpkins, totally adorable, and her facebook page exploded with people screaming "child porn" ! It was crazy! They were like 2!

Years ago, back when most of us here were kids or teens, the imagery of this art piece would never have evoked such responses. Gone are the days of innocence.
    It is a lovely painting.

Johnny, it's a lovely, pure, simple and innocent painting!! No reason to hide it anywhere!! Hang it wherever it fits best in the decor! It's so sad that we've become SUCH a prudish society, but change is bound to happen over the years!!!
