I was given this table top along w some free furniture someone was unloading....was told it's a mahjong table top. It has a vinyl like trim around the edge, felt bottom and lacquer or plastic like top. It's 36x36.

It has no legs, it can be a removable gaming surface that is placed on another table. In Japan and China, there are models where the tabletop is used as an overlay on a regular table.

It's lovely!!

It's not a mahjong table, but it's lovely.

I mean, you COULD play mahjong on it, but that's not what it's specifically designed for.

A mahjong-specific gaming table would have a rail around the edges...

...so that you can line up your tiles, and stack them, and stop them from sliding off the table.

This doesn't have that. But it's still a lovely tabletop, regardless.

I think @verybrad is correct, though - a Japanese Kotatsu.
