Maker Of Milk Glass Vase

Well it is goofus glass (pressed or mold-blown glass). I don't know the maker. Here's a similar one on eBay, or is it the same?

I used to have a miniature lamp in the same goofus milk glass pattern.

I've seen the pattern called by several names such as "Cabbage Rose" as the above, "Relief Embossed Rose" as in the glass museum link, ....

The lamp I had was like this one, but in miniature size:

I believe Goofus glass is always on clear. Although this is the same mold as one of the Goofus glass patterns.

Check Imperial.

 

I thought the same at one time. The Glass Museum page on Goofus glass talks about milk glass goofus glass. Nowwww I'm not sure of the creditablity of that site.

"The glass itself generally was clear, although milk glass is often seen with both types of decoration."

"As mentioned, most Goofus is found with clear and sometimes milk glass, but it is also known to be found with pale aqua, bright aquamarine, apple green, light amber and frosted glass. For these reasons, I speculate that considerable quantities of "blanks" were bought from the original manufacturers and "’gussied up" by decorating houses for resale."

The lamp in the last link I posted has remnants of red paint on it. I wonder if the milk glass pieces once had paint on them and the paint flaked off?

"Goofus glass is a pressed glass with relief designs. The back or front are painted. The designs are usually in red, green with a metallic gold ground. Popular from 1890 -1920, used as a premium at carnivals."

I have always understood Goofus glass to be entirely painted on a clear glass. Milk glass may be accented with gold or other colors, but unless the whole thing is painted, I would not call it Goofus glass.

Goofus is the decoration not the kind of glass or pattern name.
