I picked up a couple pieces that were listed as Meiji Satsuma, but now I am not quite sure.

The first piece feels like a miniature incense burner (sans top).

I have done some google searches trying to find the mark, but with no luck. You have all been helpful in the past, and am hoping you can help again.

The other piece is a miniature vase, again with look like Meiji marks. The marks are a little faint, but here they are.

I have found similar stuff, but nothing quite the same.

I third that. The circle and plus sign (Shimazu family crest) on top is the correct "orient"ation.

Thanks for the links. We found those as well, but can't make a definitive match for either piece.

The marks on the "vase" are very close to the Gyokuzan marks, but are a few strokes off.

In regards to the incense burner, we can not find anything even close.

I am much less concerned now that they are fake, especially since I bought them from a reputable dealer. If they are they are fakes, they are very well executed fakes.

Thanks again for your help everyone. It is very much appreciated.

I will update everyone as I learn more. Stay tuned!

Searching " Japanese satsuma koro" should bring a lot of results.

It's not a matter of them being "Fake" Satsuma.
It's more a matter of what time period for this particular Satsuma

We found a site that linked to a repository of kanji characters, so we just have to do the cross referencing to determine the date.

My concern about them being "fake" was more about it not Japanese, but rather Chinese knock offs. The more time I spend with them, the more I think they are real Meiji. All the workmanship is too good for anything but a high end fake meant to fool experts.

I will keep doing the leg work and let you all know what I discover.

100% NOT worth the time involved to fake them
