Never seen one of these before and never heard the word "Relict" before.
Does "Relict" mean daughter of, or wife of. ?

Is this a book or bible page marker ?
    8 x 2 inches

In fact I've never heard of the village of Heptonstall before and its in my county, only 80 miles away.

Remarkable condition. for 98 years , pure silk.

Relict is an archaic form for widow (I hadn't heard it previously either).

    Thank you for solving it.
Silk was used on postcards in WWI from France to UK and also on cigarette advertising cards, but I've not seen one of these.

Lily Hall is a listed building, so maybe she was a local personage memorialized in Victorian fashion.

Probably inappropriate to say so, but it's a bit like a party favor, isn't it.

Do any others remember the custom of wearing a black armband to signify that a person was in a period of mourning?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

If much less wearable. I've seen that word used before, but not in the 20th century.

Elizabeth and Elijah lived at Lily Hall in 1911 along with their 4 sons and daughter.

Relict is properly used to refer to a widow once she too has died.

directly from the Latin it would come from the same root as the wider used relic.
simply meaning an item or person that "stayed behind" or "outlasted" etc. .

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

When I see posts with historical content I can't resist looking up some information. I see that there is information on this family scattered around the Web. Couldn't find one good link for you here, but was thinking that a local historian or historical society might be a good place for this ribbon.
