Just to add to what happened here. They asked for $150 to open. Apparently no one bid. They lowered to $100, got a bid, another for $125. Evidently there was a reserve, bids did not meet & it passed. Don't know why auctioneer says it's a ewer after Alliot when label says a vase by Alliot.

The one without the base opened at $150 & sold for $450 + 16% buyer's premium.

What's to be sorry for? The details may not have been available to you. I'm registered with them, so took a look at this stuff & posted to help OP get an idea of value. Just supplementing your post. :)

    These are also Alliot's work:

Text is in French, but word 'chryselephantine' is the same in English & means made of gold & ivory. Taking the chance I'm not insulting anyone's vocabulary by explaining.

JMHO. an abuse of a French name to deceive. this company worldofbronze seems to make fantasy bronzes for fantasy prices that come nowhere near real French art nouveau stuff. look at the feet :depressed: and the whole body :arghh:, terrible. no - DISGUSTING.

Possibly someone cut the base off to make a water feature/fountain.

Maybe that's why auctioneer called it 'after' Alliot.

Because I was losing track, the one with a base & a tag did not sell. This one:

While the other, this one, sold for $450:

I can't say what they really do, but appears to me they make replicas, supposedly in cast bronze, of existing bronzes like the Alliot vase, distinguishing them from originals by mounting them on bases & putting those tags on the base. Doubt they themselves design anything.

but then we'd certainly find one similar or at least with a bit of resemblance.
