    Hello.

I have this silver cup which I can not find any info about. It has a hallmark which seems like a double eagle head with the letter R in the middle. Does anyone know what this is? Any info/input is welcome.

All I know is that this is not your usual Mexican mark. I see that it says Mexico, but I've not seen one like this before.

I think I've figured out at least 1 thing. This was made after 1979 by a maker registered in Mexico City whose last name starts with R and is the 128th R named maker in MC. Who that is I don't know.

Than you very much Bakeesgma. Its one step closer to solve the puzzle. When i was researching eagle marks on google it only showed eagles with one head or Russian silver marks.

This eagle is of the maker's choice and not an official mark. The official 1-headed Mexican eagle mark was retired about 1979.

It is by Plata Real, but I don't know when or where.
Real means royal, the double-headed eagle could be from Maximilian I of Mexico's crest. He was a Habsburg, of double-headed eagle fame.;)

I went looking for other silver items marked Plata Real and made in Mexico. Everything I found had a large crown as it's maker's mark. Not a single one with the R on a double-headed eagle's chest.

The words Plata Real are the maker's mark. It seems it is generally without the crown, and sometimes with a crown, according to Hougart:

There is no mention of an added double-headed eagle in the book, but Mexican marks can be very inconsistent. Maybe only added for a special baby's cup edition?;)
