    Hi everyone,

This microscope was my grandfather’s. He was a surgeon. It’s Bausch and Lomb Rochester. Any information would be helpful as to what kind of microscope, a guess on the year etc! The patent date marks vary.

    Thank you

It's a compound microscope, usually used with slides etc for viewing all kinds of items medical or other. If you check the eyepiece it should have the magnification factor on it, usually 5-20, then multiply this by the 'x' number on the objective and that gives you the magnification. So if the eyepiece is a 10, then using the 43x objective gives you a magnification of x430. The 'turret' bearing the objectives rotates, and you can change the objectives by unscrewing them. Looks like there is a light (or focussing lens) under the table to illuminate slides from underneath.

Looks like it has a geared x-y table as well, must had been quite a fancy model in it's day, the maker is known for quality products and I think still in business today.

The booklet probably came with the microscope, and may have a publication date inside, which would be a good indication of when your grandfather bought it.
