Mold Blown Black Glass Vase

Wonder if something went wrong with the mold or it was deliberately made to look like this? And what’s with that sand on the surface?

    Looks like glass was poured into a sand mold (like they use in foundries) - instead of a metal mold. Very crude. That's why the seam on the outside - A pattern was used to make a Cope and Drag mold then put together. At least that's what it looks like. The bottom looks like that's where the mold was poured and they cracked off the "sprue"
