    Might be a brush pot.......likely a souvenir.

    Agree, a brush pot. Nicely detailed.
    If it is stone, it is some kind of serpentine.

    I would go with match holder before brush pot. No dimensions given, but looks on the small side.

    My guess too. The design is what I'm used to seeing in soapstone from China. This looks like bone instead.
