Featured More beads... whaddya reckon?

I suspect these are restrung, but what do we reckon about the blue banded ones? They seem older.

Do they feel like glass or stone or could they be a composite?
I wonder if they are a later restring with that clasp and a mix of old glass and newer craft made ones?

 

I absolutely think a later restring with a mix. The blue ones are very odd. Like a layered stone and the colour is lapis.

Aj, they’re actually solid, that’s what’s odd. It’s like three slices, but there’s no joins. If that makes sense.

I’ve louped them, and the layers sort of blur in. They tooth tap like stone or glass, and they’re unevenly made, so done by hand I think. A couple of the ends are shinier. I’m beginning to think very very old glass. As in ancient.

 

Certainly possible. I'd say a mixed restring too. The only question is how many times have they been restrung. Those composite beads could be really old. I wouldn't say Egyptian, but who knows.

 

The more I look, the more I think they are at least Roman and possibly earlier than that. They’ve got that quality of not exactly crudeness but hand made without tools. I like them a lot.

They look very old. Could the ends have been dipped in a dye that penetrated more than paint?

 

I don’t think so, the colour seems solid. I can’t capture it with the camera, but it goes through, if that makes sense.
